windows 7 bittorrent speed
I need help with my download speed?

I'm using an unsecured wireless connection and I checked the properties on it and it says the speed is 54mbs. My downloads through Bittorrent no more than 100kbs, making it impossible to download anything done in a reasonable amount of time. For reasonable I mean is it takes hours to download a file of 80 MB. I scored in all settings to the best of my knowledge. Moreover, the quantity of seeds is a factor in this because I get the same results in a file with 1 seed, as I do with a file with 2,000 seeds. What's the deal here? I mean dial-up faster than that! What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this? I am running Windows 7 Home Premium if that helps at all. I have a general understanding of computers, but this goes way over my head. I even used a secure connection that was a great mind you, and I was getting the same results. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1) 54 Mbps is the speed of the router, not your speed for anything. and an internet connection only goes so fast as its slowest part. (Think of a one lane road and a wagon pulled by horses. Porsche behind it can only go 10 mph). 2) What is the speed 54Mbps burst, no thruput. (IOW, each packet travels that fast, but there is no space between them, so you will not transfer 54MB (which is about of 6.6MB) file in a second. 3) Call http://www.speedtest.net/ to see your speed to your supplier. Should be around what you're paying - which is far below to 54 Mbps. 4) Is your torrent download speed depends, among other things, the upload speed of the seeders you are downloading. If all you seeders is downloading to establish lower limits (you can set the maximum upload a torrent program), or a lot of people from downloading a few seeders, you get a slow download.
