Problems with the creation of a network between 2 pc.?

Hi, for the last two days have been trying to connect my desktop (XP) and my laptop (Vista) together using a crossover cable. Iv been trying to use Windows Easy Transfer to move files between all connects well, but only after sending begins to stall, with a flashing icon at the top. Iv also tried to locate the computer in the network and Vista will find the PC, but will not connect. It is their any reson for this? Many thnaks

ok the first solution is actully will not work:) The cross on the wire will only work if the laptop and PC are the same as XP or Viewed in each, but also you need to do is make one network cards in your current router, it is confusing to have a network of Internet and other yet all bound to go through the files, but it is possible! Otherthing is what I mean .. BEWARE ... Vista even for a professional IT technology like me Mann Vista is hard to play with the network to make it work so you can convert .. I can easily transfer files from Vista on a network or cable on my laptop xp but when you try to do it the other way, he does not like to move, a lot of security problems with Vista .. What ever you do, do not take it the PC world asking for a solution, they have ripped off so many sell the wrong products .. I hope this helps!
