Windows Xp Troubleshooting Network Connection
Ethernet Connectivity Problem?
I have a computer running XP SP3, it is connected to the network using cat-5, not wireless, and it randomly decided to tell me my connection has limited or no connectivity. I can unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into my laptop, or another computer, and they get an IP address just fine, but when I plug it back into this computer, it will not get an IP address. Have tried removing the NIC and removing it from the Device Manager and reinstalled the drivers, all to no avail. Is there any known issues with the TCPIP stack in XP SP3? I use Windows 7 on my laptop, and have long since forgotten about XP and troubleshooting problems. Any help?
DHCP problem.
Delete the Network Connection (on your troublesome computer running XP SP3) and setup a new one using default settings (use dynamic IP address). If you cannot delete it go on the properties->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->properties and then choose Obtain IP address automaticly.
This should help.
