Windows 7 Software Compatibility Test

Upgrading to windows 7 ..yes or no?
Hello,
I have this new sony vaio which runs vista and it's eligible, so to speak, for a free windows7 upgrade. I have never used vista before, just XP. Should I just go straight to 7 ? Everyone says vista is the crappiest if not creepiest thing ever invented...but won't I have software compatibility issues on the new 7 ? As in..programs not working on this OS. Has someone tested the beta ? Please only answer if you actually have an idea. Thank you.
Windows 7 is very nice. It also has an add on for XP compatibility on Professional and Ultimate Editions that you can Install an XP virtual machine to run your legacy applications on. If you got a choice I would go to 7 over Vista
Windows XP Mode
It's the best of both worlds: The new Windows XP Mode lets you run older Windows XP business software right on your Windows 7 desktop.
Designed primarily with small- and medium-sized businesses in mind, Windows XP Mode comes as a separate download and works only with Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate. Windows XP Mode also requires virtualization software such as Windows Virtual PC. Both are available free on the Microsoft website.
To download Windows XP Mode or learn about its system requirements, visit the Windows Virtual PC website.
