Windows Xp Upgrade

Should I buy windows xp and upgrade to windows 7?

I am building a computer and am in the stage of looking for an os. I am loathe to pay out for a full edition of windows7, so wondered is it worth buying a cheap version of xp or vista and then upgrading to windows 7?

If you're building your own computer, I'd probably look into the OEM / system builder's options first. They're usually less expensive.
